Why Post Images on DiversityIndia groups? Isn't posting them or Facebook or Orkut enough ?

Few days back I requested a friend of mine to post an image on DiversityIndia group, which I saw on his Facebook. He did share it DiversityIndia, but just out of curiosity asked me why shoud he?

So here are the reasons I feel important:

• Archives : DiversityIndia groups have archives of messages form the the time they began. So any important sighting recorded on the groups can be searched and referred for future work.
• Records : Every sighting and photo documentation is an important Biodiversity data record, which can potentially used for further research, in some way or the other.
• Visibility : Posts of DiversityIndia groups reach each and every member and they get to see it, in contrast to other social networking sites, which can be easily missed out.
• Experts : DiversityIndia groups have most of the experts in the respective fields who might help in better identification as well as point out uniqueness if any of that sighting one has made.

With all these points mentioned, I do not wish to discourage anyone from posting on social networking sites, because they also give them good visibility among your circle of friends.
